Manchester, N.H. (June 5, 2009) – Former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter, New Hampshire House Speaker Terie Norelli, and Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau will join the day-long Southern New Hampshire University Women’s Leadership Summit lineup on June 12.

“We are very excited that Jane Swift, Carol Shea-Porter; Terie Norelli and Donnalee Lozeau will participate in the Women’s Leadership Summit,” said Dr. Annabel Beerel, SNHU’s ethics chair and creator of the second-annual Summit. “These outstanding political leaders model the way when it comes to demonstrating strength, creativity, practical intelligence and genuine concern for others. Their ideas and insights will prove invaluable to Summit attendees and will also give others hope, courage and inspiration in how to overcome adversity during these challenging times.”

Feminist activist, organizer, writer and lecturer Gloria Steinem will serve as a keynote speaker. Nationally recognized business coach Dr. Lois Frankel and Loretta LaRoche, stress management/humor consultant, will also deliver keynote addresses.

Steinem, whose books include the bestsellers Revolution from Within: A Book of Self-Esteem, Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, Moving Beyond Words, and Marilyn: Norma Jean, on the life of Marilyn Monroe, is one of more than 50 speakers and presenters who will participate in the all-day event.

She is currently at work on Road to the Heart: America As if Everyone Mattered, a book about her more than thirty years on the road as a feminist organizer; and with the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College on a project to document the grassroots origins of the U.S. women's movement.

The Summit was created as an opportunity for women to assess the new realities of an ever-changing business paradigm. More than ever, according to Beerel, women need to reevaluate their core business competencies in a much more holistic way.

The Summit will begin with registration and a continental breakfast, and include presentations by several national speakers, two tracks with panel discussions and workshops, a luncheon, networking opportunities, an expo, and an end-of-day Connection Reception.

“The Women’s Fund is proud to sponsor this leadership summit for a second year,” says Marianne Jones, executive director of the Women’s Fund of NH. “The new realities of this economic downturn offer a chance to capitalize on leadership capacity, career advancement and business development opportunities. This summit is an investment in everyone’s future.”

Presentations range from “Reinventing yourself for 2009: A Career Guide,” and “Social Networking: Is this the Future of Job Searches?” to “New Realities: Responding to the Critical Signals of Change” to “Back to Basics: Grounding Strategies for Enhancing Your Value to Your Organization.”
