I think the greatest gift is that of self-amusement and being able to crack yourself up. Sure life is challenging and it can be hard to find the funny if you’re overwhelmed by stress and strife. That said, most people I know are able to laugh more if they know how to get themselves in the right frame of mind. The simple act of observation and mindful imagination can help you discover more laughs in any given day.

First – start off when you’re feeling relatively open and calm. It may even help to watch, read or listen to something you find funny to warm up. Next – become your own funny detective by paying acute attention to the world around you, listen to conversations happening within ear-shot, read the paper and look around your environment. Try to notice anything that appears off-beat, absurd or odd. Chances are it won’t take long. Funny can be found in all those things that go against the grain. By developing your funny antennae, you’ll encounter more things that will give you a chuckle & sometimes even a guffaw. In your mind, you can amplify the funny by exaggerating what you see, imagining the opposite or making connections or “what if” and “what next” in your mind.

You won’t immediately be transformed into Bob Hope, but I bet if you start doing this with some frequency, you’ll find yourself chuckling out loud at your own amusement. People may notice and think you’re funny too!.
