Aging 2007/05/15 05:16
What is the big deal about aging? I can't wait to get up in the morning and do my log roll out of bed...I shuffle off down the hall and make my way into the bathroom and turn on a hot shower. Of course, it takes some doing trying to step over the side of the bathtub, but once that hot water does it's magic I feel more like a human being instead of a mummy.

I show up everyday at my job, keep my head down, my hands busy, and go with the flow. Everyday is a new adventure being exposed to the public. I see the bipolar sideshows, the crabby appletons, the "I am better than YOU" characters...and of course those IMPORTANT PEOPLE who walk around as if they had a bad smell under their nose. I'd just like to tell them to LIGHTEN UP! Geez....

I'll be 60 in a few months and I embrace my gray hair, the bags under my eyes, the wrinkles, the wisdom I have gain over the years and accepting the living process as a learning experience. I don't worry about what people think of me, or say about me...Life is way too short to trifle over something like that.

Hey, if I wake up tomorrow morning, it's a good thing...I'll do the log roll all over again.

You go hulahanna! Age is a state of mind. I retired after 47 years of being an RN. It took 3 tries to retire 'cause I kept getting called back to "help out". I was finally able to make the muscles in my face form the word "no". Apparently the call of the sand and surf was louder than the call to work. I miss having young minds around me so I meet with a book group, attend as many up-beat programs as I can (eg the fabulous Loretta!), think positive and keep smiling. (Keep smiling. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.) Years ago I attended a program of Loretta's and she told us to love our bodies. I can't remember her exact words, but Loretta will rfresh my memory; she said stand stark raving naked in front of a full length mirror and tell yourself how beautiful you are. I thought of that time when I read your post about rolling out of bed/trying to get a leg up into the shower...I hear you honey!!!!
Margaret Meade did a book many years ago. A book of photographs of old faces. I loved that book and I love looking at the faces of older people. There are so mnay stories in each one. Aging is great...like wine, cheese and meat we only get better as we age.

Well it's nice to hear that you are now able to enjoy the sand and surf....I hope you have a bikini and a surf board, hehehe
I have always been fascinated by photos of chinese and peruvian elderly. They appear to have a serene look about them that tells a story of inner peace. No doubt they don't have to juggle a cell phone in one hand, a blackberry in another, while driving through a drive up fast food place...pop out an over extended credit card on their way to their therapist. I don't know how anyone can live that way...nowadays most people want everything YESTERDAY! Enjoy today...
